Has God given you a promise and told you to step out in faith before He completes what He said He would do? God told Abraham that he would be walking the land while envisioning the promises fulfilled – many years before God would fulfill them.

Genesis 13-15
Walking the land requires action and trust
When Abram let Lot choose the land he wanted first, he was showing that he believed God would keep his promise. Abram recognized that God would provide for his needs. With the land that Abram went to, God told him to explore it. God wanted Abram to walk through it as if he already owned it, even though he did not yet have the deed to the land. The place where Abram settled was Mamre, in Hebron. These words mean vision and communion. Abram was living in God’s vision and in community with Him.
God told Abraham to trust Him and walk the land. What area in your life has God told you to trust Him? Have you taken actionable steps to walk in His promise (Psalm 9:10)?

Walking the land requires honesty
After some time of being separated from Lot, Abram receives word that Lot and his family have been taken captive. Abram takes 300 of his fighting men during the night to rescue Lot. When Abram returned to his home, he was afraid because he had done battle with four kings. Then God appears to him and tells him not to be afraid because God is his shield, as well as his reward. Abram replies questioning “what can God give me?” While this sounds like a harsh reply, Abram had been waiting a long time for the promised heir, a son whom he did not yet have. Abram was honest with God about wanting a son. In the same way, God tells us to pray with confidence.
Are you honest with God about your pain and your desires? Do you have open conversations with Him, asking him what is on your heart? Do you wait for God’s reply (Hebrews 4:16)?
God gives signs of promises
God again promises that Abram’s descendants will be numerous and shows Abram the sign of the stars. God gave Abram a sign that he would see every night as he lay awake wondering if God would fulfill His promise.
Has God given you signs of His promises (Isaiah 38:7)?
God’s promises always come to pass
Later, God makes a covenant with Abram, sealing the promise in blood. The covenant was made solely by God as Abram sat and watched. Because the covenant’s only author was God, it was infallible. It would come to pass and no human could interfere with the promise of God.
What are some ways God has shown you that His word is infallible (John 17:17)?
Reflect on how you can walk the land in faith
Have you walked the land in faith, or do you need to take that first step today? How has God called you to act in faith?
