So often, we can get caught up in what other people say about us, or what we say about ourselves, that we forget to take a step back and ask God what He says about us. Here is a list of journal prompts along with Bible verses to help you focus on who God says you are.

What does it mean to be a child of God?
Once you accept Christ as Lord and savior, you become His child. Have you given much thought to what that means? Here are some verses to help you get started:
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
1 John 3:1
He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
John 11:11-12
A journal prompt for remembering God’s words when He speaks
Sometimes we forget the promises of God because the voices of this world speak louder that the voice of God. Take some time to remember that last time you heard from God, whether it was his voice telling you to go, or a scripture reminding you of his promises.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28:20
List what it means to have your identity found in Christ
Perhaps you need an overall reminder of what it means to be found in Christ. Look up different bible verses that speak to who you are in Him. What are some of the characteristics of being found in God?
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us. He chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
Ephesians 1:3-14 {Paraphrased}
What are some lies you need to replace with truth
Often, we hold on to our insecurities and believe that they are true and they define us. What are some of the lies that you have been believing for yourself? What are things that God says about you that you can replace those lies with?
For example, if you believe that you are not enough, God says you are.
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
1 Peter 2:9
What area are you struggling with right now? Ask God to come into that area and take it over
For some reason, we as human beings like to do things on our own. We think that for whatever reason, we can hide our struggles from God. But God knows our heart. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7). Even though we try to hide from God, he already knows. God wants us to draw near to him (James 4:8), and God says we can do so with confidence.
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 4:16
What has God called you to be Obedient to that you are avoiding
The song, Oceans, states
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior
Even though we sing those words and it feels good at the time, when God actually calls us to do something, we tend to run the other way. In the book of Jonah, God tells Jonah to GO… BUT Jonah runs away (Jonah 1:1-3). When God calls us to do something difficult, we try to reason with God and let him know why we could not possibly do it. Write a letter to God asking him to give you strength to accomplish what he has called you to do.
